Nearly 60 of the UK’s best-known children’s authors & illustrators, including Michael Morpurgo, Katherine Rundell, Chris Riddell, Jacqueline Wilson, Jackie Morris, MG Leonard, Gill Lewis, Jasbinder Bilan, Yaba Badoe, and Lauren St John are behind AUTHORS4OCEANS, which campaigns on a host of marine conservation issues, from plastic pollution in our seas to over-fishing and dolphins in captivity . St John came up with the idea for the campaign when she ordered a drink in a bookstore and it came with a plastic straw. She says: ‘It occurred to me that there are hundreds of bookshops and schools handing out plastic bags, straws and bottles daily. On my own, there wasn’t a lot I could do about it but I thought an alliance of children’s authors might have a voice on the issue. And if publishers, booksellers and our readers joined us, together we could make a real difference.” For more information visit: authors4oceans.org
